Latex – Encodage latin1 with Babel

By | 2012-11-16

When you use the option french from babel package :

\usepackage[french]{babel}
\usepackage[latin1]{inputenc}

And if you find out you have a problem with accentuated letters, you should verify what is your file’s encodage.
If your using UTF8, it won’t work with
\usepackage[latin1]{inputenc}
If it’s ISO-8859-1, it’s latin1, so it’s working, obviously.
But if you say that your encodage is latin1 and you’re using utf8, it’s more than logical that it’s gonna fail…
It’s working the other way around too.
\usepackage[utf8x]{inputenc}
